Don't try taking a short cut. You need to make sure you do it right and get all the old out. Then pack the bearings reassemble and fill.
Once you know the condition you can top off with more of what you know is already inside.

If there were only two things that I’ve learned on this forum, they would be the upper kingpin bearings are almost always bad and don’t ever bring up steering knuckle lubricants!

On just about every Jeep I have owned I always plan on replacing upper and lower king pin bearings, as they usually have not been properly service. You may have better luck than me, but at the very least you should service them as is outlined in the FSM. Inspect the bearings and races, if there is any sign of wear replace them, pack them with wheel bearing grease, set proper preload using shims, and a simple spring scale to measure resistance.

Since you have already looked at past posts on this, you know there are conflicting opinions on what lubricant is appropriate for the knuckles. Study the topic and make your own choice about what to use in your Jeep. I am tired of arguing about "Cornhead grease".

    "Manuel" who ? :D

I have used 140 wt gear oil in the Ross steering boxes after rebuilds, and it will probably work okay for knuckle lube. Another forum member here uses 90wt gear oil and says it works fine, so 140wt will probably do. Be sure to replace the knuckle seals / wipes with a good quality kit.

If you try the 140wt and it leaks, try the knuckle pudding recipe described on the Novak site. That is what I use. I use a paint stirring thingamob chucked int a drill to mix it up.

I did and liked it. Plus I like the idea of using a caulk gun. Use what you need , cap it off and have for topping off later. Don't need a dedicated grease gun and it is just there when needed.
    Price versus convenience.
