Rebuilding 70 cj5. Spare Dana 27 with 2 hole knuckle . To replace 69 dana 27 1 hole. What advantage does 2 hole have over 1 hole knuckles.

I think the 2 hole also provides some mechanical advantage that decreases steering effort with manual steering. For me, just getting rid of that one stupid tie rod end on the right side would be enough of a reason. The one that connects the rod from the pitman arm to the tie rod. I always hated that one for some reason.

    This.
I had non power steering on my CJ when I switched to a 2 hole knuckle and it was a noticeable decrease in steering effort.
Also reduces the drag link angle, so in theory at least, less bump steer.
You can find a 2 hole knuckle on some Willys pickups/wagons, and also some Jeepster Commandos.

Add to that it makes the one piece tie rod clear the right side spring better. The stock two piece tie rod configuration was some engineers bad dream and arguably not even much cheaper than the one piece. Not only do you end up with a steep angle on those short tie rods, but every time you hit a bump, the toe-in changes. If there was ever a recipe for enhanced death wobble, that system is for sure it.

A two hole knuckle and a one piece tie rod are a definite improvement. There should be all sorts of threads on this site covering this subject. Do a search.

Absolutely. I recently completed this upgrade on a manual steering ‘69 even with my 6-1/2 turn gear it is noticeably improved.
