Could be, but doesn't look like the factory ashtray in mine.

All the stock ashtrays I've seen have mounted under the dash.

Technically Jeep did not put ash trays in their vehicles.

    They put in ash receivers.

Now, I'm not sure what the difference between a tray and a receiver is, but clearly the ash receiver is higher class than the ordinary proletariat ash tray........

Maybe it had something to do with 4wd....

Maybe the guy writing the part manual didn't smoke...

Maybe the catalog publisher got paid by the number of letters printed.....

Mine had a Jeep lighter and ashtray that was either dealer or factory installed. The ashtray base was riveted to the dash slightly up and to the right of the lighter, I removed the little stub rest for the cigar or cigarette and have used it for years as a coin tray. The unit is removeable to be emptied by sliding it up out of its track, it has a metal top and the bottom is plastic. Notice the little light at the bottom of my dash, that was also on there as factory or dealer installed, it still works other than the original switch has been replaced.

Some off road areas & Federal Lands require ashtrays by law in vehicals cause they know people will throw them out the windows if there isn't one. Since I fight wildland fires during the summer I know first hand how many get started that way! Mark

That may be the law now, but I'd bet money it wasn't 35 years ago.;)
