Looking For A Certain 80 Cj7

I know it's a long shot but my friend is looking for his father's old jeep, his father recently passed away and he thought it would be cool to find it.
It was sold in West Milford NJ

1980 CJ7, 4 speed manual. Purchased new for $6587. The VIN which is not 100% legible JOM93E A or C 032001.

I have been looking for my 64 3B I had restored in high school and foolishly sold in 1973. For 10 years .

 

If your friend knows which engine his dad's Jeep originally had in it, he can determine the missing character in the VIN:

A = 258ci, 1 bbl
C = 258ci, 2 bbl
E = 232ci, 1 bbl
H = 304ci, 2 bbl

Also, the second digit of the VIN is a 0 (zero), for 1980, rather than the letter O.

If you get the VIN sorted out, you can set the vehicle up in the CARFAX my car's maintenance section. It will track down any on-line service records & inspection records for it if they are out there. Or just pay to run a carfax report to narrow down where it is if it still exists.

 

Its a 258 not sure on bbl

 

Carfax won't accept a vin number with less than 17 characters

 

Do you know who it was sold to? That's where I would start.

If you can't find it at all, I know of a CJ7 with a 258 and 4spd that is for sale. It might even be the same year.
