    Hello,
I'm working on a M38A1 that had a replacement rear panel at some point. The taillights were installed in a non stock fashion and I need to restore them. My plan is to cut the 5" diameter holes and fabricate support brackets. Can someone please tell me how far the taillights are supposed to protrude from the rear of the tub? Put another way, I need to know how deep to make the support brackets.
    Thanks,
    Ken

If I remember tomorrow, I can measure the depth of the mounting bracket on my A-1 tub.

I finally remembered to run over and measure my A-1 tub. The mounting surface for the tail light is 2 1/2” recessed from the outer body surface.
MidWest Military (Prior Lake, MN) sells accurate reproduction mounting brackets for $14 each, or there are some MD Juan repops that would get the job done for $10 on eBay.
The hole for the light is about 1/8” smaller than 5” (4 7/8”) if you’re going for accuracy. I did take a photo of mine if you need the correct placement. I’d need an eMail or number to message to. -Donny
