I am restoring my 69 and am having so much fun. The rust is not too bad but gradually I'm going to need to do some serious repair.
What are the pluses and minuses of fiberglass vs steel?

This topic has been discussed a lot. My own preference is for steel, though some members here have 'glass bodied Jeeps and have good experience with them.

I'd recommend trying the forum search.

    Personally, I prefer steel.

No serious complaints with the glass tub I installed in '95... and it was a used tub at that time, on a dead '68... age and mfgr unknown. It was in pretty good shape generally, but with neglected and peeling paint. It has a plywood core, that's all I know for sure. I could tell that from where the PO's mufflers burnt through the outer glass of the floorboard and charred the plywood core

I'm new here so I'm learning how to search. I tried the different topics I could think of and didn't find anything.

Oh, and this is a good time for a reminder about subject lines.

Please don't be vague. It makes it harder to search. When you get 5 pages of results that may or may not apply it's nice to see one like the subject line of the post I linked to above.

    Steel, fiberglass or kevlar tub

I have a fiberglass tub on a '61, and I don't care for it. The main thing is it just doesn't look right. Steel for me.

I have a fiberglass tub and fenders on my 68. The fiberglass doesn't weigh as much as the steel so I need to add extra weigh to plow snow with it. This jeep is for pleasure and work. If you add extra weight to the back storage area you'd better add some plywood to dispurse the it over the floor or it may crack. Fiberglass is just not strong eough in a number of areas as the steel. Also, If you go with fiber glass be sure and still use the frame as the main electrical path to ground. I believe that without some current passing through the frame accelerated rusting may occur in regions where salt is used on the roads. I miss the tailgate too!
