Don't do those. I did get permanent plates. Had it out on the road for the first time this afternoon. Other than the herding, great. Not to say there aren't a few more things to address. The shocks are high on that list. All are leaking. I have two good RS5000's I pulled from the rear of the 3B in the last makeover that I think are just right. Will order two more. You will need to come pilot it to give you an idea where the Willys is going to end up with the 225. 54 years after my first 225 drive, I'm still impressed with the low end torque.

As to your "new" Willys project, you need to put a scissors jack between the spring and frame to clear the shackle perch and then a bottle jack horizontal off the bumper and a loop of chain around the axle housing to pull that all forward. My original equipment 3B springs should still be here someplace or you could pilfer the ones off the remains of the 2A.

 

Permanent plates are a smart choice. Although lately permanent plates for us spell the near future demise of ownership, eg the Grande' Cherokee and the Coke truck. I also need to come up with a solution for a worn drag link pin. Mine is currently pinned in place as tight as it will go and still wobbles.

Yes that would be fun to take it for a test out. Although I would still probably prefer to ride with the dogs in the back!

Thats funny, I had the exact same thought regarding putting a jack between the frame and axle. The spring is crammed into the rear hanger and under tension. Need to relieve the tension. Putting a bottle jack with a chain is a good idea I'll try that. Maybe I'll make a quick pipe attachment for the jack with a chain slot cut into it to keep it set.

For my wife and I, maybe permanent plates just mean our future demise. I thought about that and the odds of being around long enough to make those plate worth it. But they're GOLDEN YEARS------ Must be worth more
