Has anybody run LT235x85R-16" wheels, 'n tires on their CJ 5,..??

I've got a couple sets of Oem Ford aluminum wheels, 'n tires kickin' around,.....
Of the 8, 4 have decent 'round town, down the trail tread on 'em,..... 'n with the antique plates, no inspection necessary,....

If I could find 5x 5.5" to 8x6.5 wheel adapters, I could run out these ole skins,....

They appear to be abit taller, 'n almost as wide as the 12x31-15s on it now,....

They list a bunch of Ford and Dodge 1/2 ton applications. The fact they don't fit CJ's leads me to believe the center hole is too small for external hubs.

You might be better off to find some aftermarket 16” rims, maybe 16 x 7” or 8” to use the tires you have.
I have run 7.50-16 tires on my CJ and they worked well, but I was running 5.38 gears. Those were skinnier than your tires, but a similar diameter.

Ayuh,..... I found some that state they're for a early Jeep/ early Ford,......
The 155. price doesn't say if it's each, for a pair, or what,.....

Keys,.... My axles are original 1963 I believe, which should be a pretty low ratio(hi numbered), 'n it's got the Dauntlas V-6, TH-350 auto trans,.....

I don't think abit taller tires are gonna hurt the power, 'n might make the Dauntlas happier,...

What's the beef with spacers or adapters,..??..??
    To much bearing loading,..??

I'm lookin' to build this into a looks good, goes good, get to town or camp rig,.....
Not a super swamper, or gravel pit climbin' machine,....

Personally, I don't have an issue with mild spacing. I've seen them on offroad, performance, and sand applications and they worked fine.

*cheap* spacers, and especially deep ones, tend to be a very weak link in the drivetrain. If you poke around on the internet, you can find lots and lots of pictures of them having failed, and tore up rigs. Not to mention the potential problems with losing a wheel at highway speeds in traffic, and the damage you can potentially cause to others.

They aren't *inherently* bad, they can be built in a safe manner, but there are lots of them out there that are basically just ticking time bombs.

I have 3/4" spacers on the D27 on the front of my CJ5, just because my OEM 16x4.5 (5.5? I can't remember) won't clear the brake calipers on my Disc Brake conversion. I'm not happy about having to run them, but I don't really have an option, and as of yet, I don't really consider my CJ a "wheeler" I'll be ditching them and changing to a rim with proper dimensions to clear, before I do.

I have 1" spacers all around. I wouldn't do it on a stock front axle since it can aid in pulling the spindle bolts out. Turning is more difficult and it's wanders more now. I have thread locker and witness marks on all of the hidden wheel studs and spacer nuts. It's worth it to me, the brakes work well.

Ayuh,..... I guess I'll have to give this some more thought,....
The 31x12-15s have decent tread, but are weather checking, though they still hold air,....
I have some time to decide which way to go,.....

Thanks for the thoughts, 'n ideas,.....
