Well Tellico was great, but wish i could have been in 4WD. Found out for some reason the shifter linakge is not going into 4Lo, only a 2Lo. I heard bout the 2Lo feature occuring when the Tcase is worn. I am just wondering if the shifter linakge for a CJ dana 20 is problematic?? Or actually to think of it, i have a CJ shifter on a Jtruck dana 20, i just saw that there was two differnt bearing retainers for the CJ and truck versions. Is the problem because of me not having the correct shifter?? I am considering just going to the twin stick, but i dont want to shell out the $$. Is there any writeups for making a twin stick shifter at home?? It doesnt look hard, but the kit i saw had new shift rails so i am uncertain if i needed new rails, or if it is a thing particular to the dana 20 twin stick kit.

    Thanks!!

You can buy a twin kit for the 20 for about $100. You can make the same kit for about $20 worth of material. Here is a pic of mine with the twin stick installed. You should be able to figure out what you need to make from that pic. As you can see, there is nothing complex about it.

You do not need new rails. And since the case is arleady worn enough that you have 2-lo, You do not even have to remove the interlock pills. It is a very easy conversion.

Yup, get rid of that funky shifter junk and go twin stick. Very easy to fab up. Mine looks similar although I used bits of the old linkage at the rails hooked to little rod ends at the sticks. I used some simple 3/8 rod to make the sticks and found some knobs at the hardware store. I still have issues getting the front in and out of gear, but that may just be getting the gears to line up etc... Still shifts WAY easier than it ever did, plus I know what gear its in now. No need for new shift rails, although I did remove my interlock pin anyways.

    Danstew,

I have a FSJ d20 tcase that I just rebuilt. I was planning on using my cj shifter on it. Because of your post I am reconsidering this. I will either use the FSJ shifter I have or go twin stick. Could you keep us posted on your findings please?

Sure Karl, Look at the Novak site for thier link to the Dana 20 twin stick. read that website, you will see that it says their product will not work with the fullsize truk dana 20 because the bearing retainer is made differntly at the holes the rails slide in.
