There's a tank with the early sender, and a tank with the later sender. The early sender is held with 6 screws, and the later has a lock ring. The later tank accepts a return line that goes in the top through the sender plate. I believe the earlier tank uses a line from the bottom through the floor, and the later tank sips gas from the top of the tank through the sender, like a drinking straw.

Both styles are available in plastic from MTS. The earlier type is available in steel. I believe all the V6 Jeeps got the later style of tank.

Thanks! I will try that. I have been finding it hard to find info and parts for my specific year. Feels like all of the years around it seem easier to find.

Yes, I plan on doing the brakes first. The brakes on my Jeep basically dont work and I have not been able to find out why. I saw they sell Disc conversions for this jeep. Might pick that up.

Yes, the new one and the original one both pulled the gas from the bottom. The top was the one without the lock ring and seems to just be the fuel level.

A good welding shop may be able to modify your new tank to whatever you need as long as it hasn't had fuel in it. Do you still have the old tank as a reference? The 225 is a great little jeep engine. I'd get it back to running order too and go from there.

When I replaced my tank. I got a new tank with the screw in sending unit. I had that cut out and they welded in the locking ring adapter for the sending unit
