    Anyone had this problem?

The edge of the drum **just** touches the steering arm. I'm giving strong consideration to grinding a very small amount from the steering arm. I'm talking less than 1/8th of an inch. Would you guys consider this a big no-no?

The other option is to grind the drum, but that's going to mean grinding the full circumference, which would take MUCH longer... (come on - let me out the easy way!)

Timmy did you have shims in the front between the knuckle and backplate?

Same here. The non finned drums fit just inside the lip of the backing plate. Nothing sticks past the backing plate.

No idea on the grinding though Tim.

I had finned brake drums all the way around on my CJ-5. No problems that I can recall.

Off of an intermediate CJ-5 as I recall. What are yours from Timmy?

I would grind the drum all the way around and leave the arm alone.
    that's just me.
doesn't matter if it's not level or true, no braking surface on the edge
when done, check again with wheel on and nuts tightened just to be sure

Thought about that... Problem is - I *have* these drums already, and they've been turned. New drums at Napa are $85 each.

Intermediate 5 also. The interfence is so slight, I'm guessing it could be just a casting difference for the drum. I'm interested to see if the other side hits as well.

I'll probably just grind the drum like Jim suggested.

I had that problem with my setup..

I ended up milling down about 1/4" around the inside lip of the drums. Work's fine now:)

The drivers side didn't have any clearance issues... I just buzzed around the passenger side with a grinder and it was fine.

    Thanks for the advice!
