I know its a heater but have no idea where it comes from. Got it out of old '5 i bought and ended up parting out. Didnt know if it was a stock item, but figured it is aftermarket. Tag says model 556 heater and manufactured buy mobile products div. Didnt know if it is something good or better off in the landfill. Thanks again.

You're one heater ahead of me. I'd keep it and use it.

My CJ5 had one like that when I bought it. I've seen pictures of them in other Jeeps, so they were apparently popular.

I'll try to get a pic of my small heater. I bought it from JC Whitney for about $80. Is a auxillary heater but looks similar to yours. here's a picture of it but can't see it very well. 2 speed motor.

Mine had one similar as well. I belive they come from JC whitney back in the day. Removed mine and replaced with an early Bronco heater box. Cleanest, simplest conversion ever, and the defrosters work too! I have a Bronco specialty house nearby (Toms bronco parts 1-541-779-1339) and they stock a number of these units.

I don't. My family hasn't graced it'self with a digital camera yet. However I can tell you that it looks like a smaller more compact version of the 72 and later boxes. The housing is 22" long by 8" tall. Three floor vents on the left below the defroster flapper/ducts(2). two speed fan in the middle. Radiator on the right. Can be plumed to outside air by cutting a small square out of the right side panel(I didn't do this and the heater works great) Four small mount holes in the firewall with the core inlets coming out just below the battery box. I installed mine fifteen years ago and have loved it. Don't know what they are getting for them now, but I paid 85$ for mine. If I can find a pal with a camera, I'll post som picts in the future.

Found a pic of one on ebay. If I hadn't just spent a lot of time (and some money) restoring my stock system I might look into it. I still might after this coming winter in Virginia, to evaluate the stock system!!
