Having a little difficulty imagining how they launched it or retrieved it, with the wheels wrapped. Either a lot of hands (and wet clothing), or a BFCrane?

this jeep is taken in the river for entertainment, not to cross the river.

Yep. And with the gradient of a lot of mountain streams, that may be the least of your problems. Floating in those is a very bad idea. Least you don't want to become just another part of the stream bed load.

    Looks easy enough to do.

Definitely some wet clothing as I predicted.

And you failed to mention the giant suction pump which just happened to be on hand. :p

I always just loosened the belt when knowingly going in the water, the fan will spin when dry but will slip when rev'd quickly. It will slip in water easily but not come off.

Back in the eighties I went off roading with a fairly new Isuzu Trooper, and was very impressed with where that little rig could go.

I came to a very muddy creek with several sets of tire tracks coming out on both sides so I thought I could cross it.

I drove into it and the hood was immediately under water.

The air intake was in the grill and a lot of mud made it into the engine before it shut down.

Whatever had crossed it before evidently had a lot more lift that mine. May have been a group of "monster trucks".

I had to be towed home.

When I tore down the engine to rebuild it, because it needed it, the crankshaft journals looked like they had been threaded.

Moral of the story is you need to know how deep the water is before driving into it.

    Very expensive mistake.

That Trooper was only a year old, so it was a bad day for me.

We were way back in a strip mine and had to walk out and hitch a ride off the mountain, which was an adventure in itself.

We were both covered in mud, so most folks just passed us by. But a kindly pair of scavengers who had been in the strip mine harvesting scrap iron happened by who offered us a ride in the back of their truck. They were drunk, but so were we, so we climbed in and experienced the most frightening trip down a mountain I ever took.

When we got to my buddy's house I called every tow truck in the phone book before finding one willing to go after it.

An old guy showed up with an old truck that broke down twice on the way out there but he got the Trooper out of the mud and towed it about 50 miles to where I lived. I expected a hell of a bill, but he only charged me $125. When I rebuilt the engine I had to have the crank turned .060 under, so a lot or wear occurred in a ver short time.

Scotch, even a very fine singer malt, is not recommended for trail rides.
