Frames 69 Or 71 Same?

Starting to rebuild cj5 v6 have both 69 and 71. Which is better and any known weakness or rot areas?

 

Inspect for rot or cracks. Cracks happen pretty often. Rot not so much because of the ope C-channel design. Look for rust damage anywhere water or debris can be trapped. AFAIK they are the same.

 

I think the 69 will be set up for the under seat fuel tank and the 71 will have the larger rear tank. I believe this difference is in the rear draw bar and bracing for it. Not sure what else would be diff.

 

The 71 won’t have the bracing for the drawbar in the rear (deleted for the rear tank), and should have an additional angle brace in the rear, outside corner of the frame.

They like to crack around the front shackle mounts. Look very closely in that area. The rear can crack in the same location but it's not as common. Also closely inspect the spring hangers, shock mounts, the front crossframe and where the front crossframe attaches to the rails.
