Fixing A 40 Year Old Starter Issue

    My dad bought his 69 CJ in 1979 with 11k miles on it. It was in immaculate condition except for a intermittent no start condition. Starter tested good, ignition switch tested good...I guess it was a bit of a mystery. Anyway, he just installed a pushbutton next to the key and has been driving it like that ever since.

    Recently he's got it in his head that he'd like to do away with the button....reading the FSM and discovered this little gem-

    We looked at it yesterday and sure enough, the purple wire off the switch was heavy, a 10 or 12 gauge but on the other side of the connector it went to a 18 gauge blue wire! 20210403_140515.jpg

    I replaced that skinny blue wire with a 10 gauge wire down to the solenoid and it seems to be working fine!
