I am repainting my oil bath air cleaner. On the bottom there was what appeared to be a poorly applied patch of epoxy. I remove the epoxy and found these 4 small holes.

Any idea what the holes are for? I'm guessing they should be plugged again. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks.

Look like a PO had a bracket or something like that mounted there. I would do a little hammer-and-dolly work and then close them.

    First post. Welcome from Boston!

Pulling the dents out seems like a good guess. There is no access from the back side so a dent could not be hammered out. Then again, none of the other repairs were done well by the POs, so why even pull the dent? And the epoxy looked like it was applied by a 4 year old with a jar of paste. Who knows what they were thinking...

I did not realize it was my first post. I've been lurking so long I just thought I must have posted before.

I'm in the middle of an extensive update of everything. This is just one little issue to resolve. I think I'll have to start a rebuild thread and post a bunch of photos.

I had to close up some holes in mine when I repaired it and I had the welding instructor at our community shop show and then teach me how to Tig braze them shut and that worked really well. The metal is very thin.

I ended up plugging the holes with closed back pop rivets:

I ground down the flange on the 2 that are close together so they would fit:

    Painted and installed:

The rivets are on the back so they are hard to see. Good enough for my build.
