I'm working on rebuilding the E-Brakes on a 1973 Jeep Commando C104. This particular commando does NOT have the stock driveline, so I'm hoping you CJ fellows could help me out. A previous owner removed the equalizer, brackets, and rear cables. I have the stock AMC 304 V8, but I am running a Tremec T176 transmission, a Dana 300 xfer case, coupled to an AMC Model 20 narrow track rear axle. If my timing is correct, this driveline would be consistent with an early 80's CJ.

I've noticed the wheelbase on a CJ8 Scrambler is about the same as a Commando, so I'm hoping the cables will be close enough to fit. I can fab a cross-member if necessary to support the equalizer or any mid-body components.

Please reply with a parts diagram and a parts list for the rear drums and the E-Brake if available.

I'm also interested if anybody has performed a drum-to-disk conversion on an AMC Model 20 rear axle.
    How did it go?
Was any welding required or is it bolt-up?

There are parts books on the Tom Collins site that should cover the CJ-8: JeepĀ® Parts Manuals online

Not familiar with the differences between the Model 20 backing plates and the earlier Dana 44. The parts book shows the same picture for brakes with both axles. Again, these parts will be shown and described in the parts books linked above. Generally the lever and strut inside the drum are not service parts, and not available from the usual aftermarket sellers. The 20 is such a cigar butt that you may be able to find a complete axle with brakes to take your missing parts from. Try the WTB sections on the Jeep forums or search at car-part.com
