I was surprised to see this on their results from a previous race... looks like they might not be as picky as they sound... Mahindra?

That's not exactly 1967-1975. Got better springs than the Jeeps of that period too.

Looking at the number of participants they have, I would imagine that they are willing to stretch the rules if: 1)they want numbers in a class and 2)they know you aren't a contender to win. I bet the Roxor fits in there. If they allowed it into the modern class against the race trucks or the UTV category it would get destroyed.

I was just thinking what would have to go into it to get it strong enough?? Boxed strapped and plated frame? Cage tied into frame. Trussed axles even? Must be a balance between making it strong and not going so overkill that it’s too heavy to get out of its own way haha

There are two ways you can go with this. Box/truss the frame to make it as strong as possible, then mount the cage on bushings to absorb the vibrations; or build the cage as one with the frame from bumper to bumper to act as a ladder, and invest in a good seat.

I built my 3b (racer) following the second plan (minus the good seat). The cage is bolted to the frame from front to back (13 pt), and the frame/cage acts as one solid unit. The frame itself is not boxed, and I’ve never had a crack show up anywhere over 25 years of horrible abuse. As a compromise, I feel EVERY bump. It is very unforgiving. But, it’s quick and easy to build.

OTOH, my last build I went the other direction. I stiffened the frame as much as possible, and I mounted the cage and body on rubber bushings. This is a dream to drive, and I’d trust it to stand up to the same abuse as the 3b. But it was a LOT more work.

The more you stiffen one area, the more another area will have to take up the slack. If you eliminate frame flex, your springs/axles/bumpstops are going to be called on to take more abuse. Trusses and thick rubber bump stops are a good idea. The 30/44 axles in my 3b are close to folding in half, and they’re trussed.

Option number one sounds like it’d be the better choice! I see alot of the prerunner guys solid mounting cages and even drivetrain but they have quite a bit more suspension to take up the bumps:rofl:
