Ok, I searched, but couldn't really find what I was looking for.
Since I have the transmission and tcase out of the jeep right now, my dad has an extra twinstick D18 that he's giving me. Provided its in good shape, which I believe it is, I would like to swap them out.

    Here's my questions

Right now I have a 29 tooth maingear coming off the T14, assuming its the 10 spline also. The twinstick tcase is an old one probably original to the 54 3b If it has a 29 tooth 6 spline maingear, I should be able to use mine from my T14, right?

I see there's also a 26 tooth, 6 spline maingear listed in catalogues. If this old one has the 26 tooth gear, am I going to be able to swap these 2 cases?

Anything else I should look for between the mating surfaces of the T14 and D18??

    Thanks!

Brian I don't know for sure about the gears and such, but if you have the twin stick, just take the parts off the old transfercase and put them on yours, it only took me about 3 hours to convert mine from single stick to twin stick.;).

My dad's checking the gears tonight then saturday we're going to be putting things back together. I'll see how it goes then.

I took the twin stick off of a small hole 18 and swapped it to a big hole 18 I didn't even take it apart to switch out the shift rails...

I'm going to preface this by saying that it is probably not the correct way to do this conversion but it has worked so far for me!!!

that out of the way the single stick version has holes in the shift rail. I used a cut off wheel and a grinder and turned the holes into a slot for the end of the shifters to go into. works very well...

no need to take the whole thing apart. maybe not the best way but maybe it'll work.

You can't use a 26 tooth drive gear in a 29 tooth case, and visa versa. The gears absolutely won't match. You'd have to swap all the gears.

Does a T14 have the same rear bearing adapter as a T86? Basically getting at the old big hole/ small hole tc question.

I believe that the only case that will work with the T14 is the large hole, mainly because of the rear bearing retainer for the tranny. Otherwise you should just be able to swap the two gears granted the one your getting is 10 spline and the same tooth count. ;)

Just swap out the single stick front bearing housing for the twin stick housing and your done quickly. That said, some things to check while in there would be the twin stick ouput shaft bearing and seal as well as the shift rod seals. Replace if necessary.

Well, after reading the info base at novak's site, don't think I can just swap the cases out.
    MOP and Joe are right.

You can have the small-hole machined out I believe, but no reason if you have a big hole case already. Swapping the twin stick and freshening up your big hole with a rebuild kit would be easy and worthwhile IMO.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my d18 and coverting to twin sticks. My dad had an old d18 that I plan to take the twin stick front end off of. I've got new (used) gears and a rebuild kit on order from Herm. My case is large hole.

The picture of the twin stick coversion on Herm's web site was very usefull as was the gear chart at the Novak site. And the various writeups.
