What Order Should I Put Steering Column Back Together?

Quick little question for you guys. I’ve got the Jeep all torn apart and have gotten around to the steering column, got it all apart and painted. My question is, do I put the steering wheel on the shaft before putting the shaft into the column, or do I put the shaft into the column and then put on the steering wheel?? Or does it make any difference? I wanted to be extra careful because I don’t want to have to take the new wheel on and off as I would probably damage it in some way lol.
Also what are your methods for putting a new steering wheel back on?
