So I have a rebuilt (by me) engine and transmission sitting in frame, driveshafts off, no body (still waiting on new tub) While I'm waiting, I want to fire the engine and address any issues while everything is out in the open. I can set the radiator in place and rig a fuel source, but what is the bare minimum wiring I need to fire it up? Its an f head, and I'm running the original generator for now. I am mildly retarded when it comes to electrical components, so if anyone has a really simple diagram for this I would be grateful. I just don't want to get the whole jeep together, just to find the drivetrain is going to eat itself.

    Battery - to engine block.
Battery + temporarily to starter when you’re ready to fire it up.

+ battery power with a small jumper to + on coil.
    - on coil to distributor.

Remove + wire from coil to shut it off.

That’s about as simple as it can be done.

That's just what I needed. Thanks. One question, does the battery need to be to the block, or can it be to the motor mount, which is how it was originally?

As long as there’s strong continuity from the battery (-) to the starter case, it doesn’t really matter what route it takes to gets there.
    Good luck!

Make sure oil is in the transmission; don't know how you're going to do that without the transfer case bolted up.

It's there, I omitted that in my original post. Thanks for looking out, though

Only attach wire from battery + to coil + when it’s ready to run.
If that “hot” wire stays attached with engine not running then the coil can begin to heat and burn up within a few minutes.
