I got the new starter in, and for some reason i doubted it would work. So it is installed and when i cranked the bus up it made the horrible noise again. So I started the jeep and put the clutch in a touch and the sound went away. I let it out a touch and it came back. I looked under the jeep and when at rest the fork is rattling it seems on something. The fork spring is pulling the outside toward the engine so the fork will be pulled toward the tranny. But when i apply a little bit of the clutch pedal the slave pulls the fork about 1/4 inch and the sound goes away. I know i do not have it adjusted yet, but what is the noise that is being made?? The fork looks to be properly on the throwoutbearing. When installing the tranny i didnt unduely hit anything or bend anything, i was constatly reaching into the bellhousing to see if everything was kosher. Just do not know what the loose fork would be hitting on to make this racket??
Here is a pick of the fork on the pivot, if you can see it.

    Dan,

Are you sure you put the throwout bearing on correctly? Possibly backwards, causing it to hit the clutch plate. By your description, it sounds like the throwout bearing could possibly be bad also.

I didnt mess withe the throwoutbearing. it is the same one i was running before thaxle swap, and it was new bout a year ago with limited riding on it. Looking at the fork on the bearing it seems to be seated on it fine. Unless for some reason it seperated, i do not see how it got off the input shaft. I really kept an eye on the input shaft and inside when installing teh tranny

I am going to check on this tonight. I originally had the slave cylinder attached to the fork with both of the nuts before the fork, this time i put one forward and one behind nad it is a touch loose so i am thinknig it is makeing that rachet because of this, not going to bet my life on it, but i will try that tonight.

Great!! It was just something stupid. I put the slave cylinder back on like i had it before with both nuts before the fork and it worked fine. Nice and quiet. After dinner i take it out for a test drive :)
