I had the winch all mounted nicely, but then i had to do the sagi swap ;) Now i cant use the original monuts ofr the winch. Actually i could use the passenger side that i had, but the driver side mount will now have to deal with the saginaw box. I was thinking bout take 2 pieces of 1x1 square tubing and running it across the frame rails and make a piece of 1/4 plate to go over the top of the tubing. But if i use 2 pieces i will have the monut angled forward, only 1 piece would work to keep it parrallel. but i do not think this is strong enough. How many places should a winch mount to the frame for it to be strong? Can you guys show some pics of your winch mounts with the saginaw conversion.

To mount mine, I boxed the front of the frame (inside and out). Then welded 2x2x5/16" angle to the inside of frame. Next I used a peice of "c" channel 2x9x5/16" to mount winch. Holding the "c" channel and angle together are 6 1/2" bolts (3 to a side). I then made a bracket for the roller fairlead out of the left over angle iron and welded it to the front of the channel.

What I plan to do is use 1x2 square tubing, or something similar, and build a subframe for the winch plate. I'll put a piece from frame rail to frame rail right in front of the grill, missing the steering box. Then, I'll put a piece maybe ~10 inches long that goes from the bumper to the 1st piece, right along side the steering box. Then the winch mount can attatch to the new short piece, instead of the driver's side frame rail.

i was thinknig bout going across with the 1x1 to support the rear of the winch, then on top of that rear 1x1 and to the front bumper is 1/4 plate, not sure if that is strong enough.

I'm not sure I fully understand what your saying, but I would run the square tubing from the front bumper to the rear support piece, and maybe another one doing the same thing, spaced in between that and the passenger side frame rail. It only takes a few minutes to add those. I see the weak point being the 1/4 inch plate bending with the winch under load, and that would greatly stiffen up the plate I think.
