Putting my skid plate for the gas tank back together. Does anyone know the dimensions, mainly height, of the rubber pad (4.131-9) that sits between skid plate and tank. Pic attached (hopefully). 0E383D23-C93F-4D7B-A637-68849503BFAE.jpeg

On an intermediate, my advice is to leave it out. You don't need it - the tank will stay up in the Jeep without the skid plate, and the pad promotes rust-through of the tank. The skid plate was optional through '75, and at least a few Jeeps came from the factory with the bare tank hanging down.

Works for me! The old pad just disintegrated in my hand and my skid plate does have little rust holes already.
    Thanks timgr and Twin2!

now to make the skid plate hangers

How can you have the skid plate and not have the hangers?

This is an important question to this issue. Was the front of the skid attached directly to the frame, like the back?

PO Had the skid plate off because he was working on fuel gauge so if I have them they are lost or I never got them from PO
The back is attached to the rear cross member / frame, the 4 holes line up. I don’t think it possible for the skid plate to be attached to the frame on front part. I’m including a pic (view looking back towards rear crossmember). 53DBCDD1-6E43-4E9C-90D6-9EDC041B64E5.jpeg

yup - you need the brackets for the front of the skid plate....pretty simple L-brackets as you posted in the diagram at the top. I retro-fitted an intermediate tank into my early cj, and I also left the pad out - just seems to promote rust.

Wondered if you had the '76-up skid plate. The '76-up skid plate would have been ok, if that's what you had. The front of it extends up further and bolts directly to the frame with no L-brackets.
