Of all the axcles i have had they have ben relatively easy to remove the chunk. This ine is not that easy. Where do i position the crowbar for maximum leverage to pop out the chunk?? Right now the carrier will spin in almost every position i put the crowbar. I am thinking i should attach the driveshaft to keep it still. What other suggestions do you guys have to remove the carrier without a case spreader.

Put front hubs and wheels on.

Attach strap or chain around carrier.

Attach other end of strap to tree or something sturdy.

Put in reverse and back up.

Should come out, barring nothing is holding it in.

    :D

I got mine out by tapping on the pinion with a hammer from the outside, but the way I've always read to do it is take a towel and put it on the ring gear. Then rotate the ring gear with the towel around it such that the towel gets drawn in between the ring gear and pinion gear, and it should push the carrier right out.

Rotate the carrier so one of the ring gear bolts is at the bottom (6 o'clock position when looking from the side). Find a socket that will wedge between the head of the bolt and the bottom of the inside of the diff.

Next get a breaker bar or the like and a socket that fits the ring gear bolt at the 12 o'clock position (again when looking from the side). You should be able to place the socket on the top bolt and pull the bar towards you and have the carrier pop out.

The idea is the leverage of bottom socket will pop out the carrier. I've tried this method on my D30 however the carrier was not in too tight to begin with.
