This thread has made me feel completely guilty for not having a FSM. I will try to ask no more questions until I buy one (sulking with nose in corner for 15 minutes).

I only have a Haynes, and it is about useless.

I don't have any Jeep FSM's, I do have a few Haynes manuals around and a FSM for my motorcycle. I think what Hawk is saying is that so much information is turning up on the internet that it appears one does not need a FSM, until one Sunday afternoon when internet searches come up empty and your DD is disassembled on the garage floor. That seems to be when the questions that could be answered by the FSM are posted on a forum. So, a lot of us are guilty, and should go get a FSM, but only find that out when we are up the creek without a paddle.

My neighbor and I had plans to change the transmission in his Saturn, so since I was in the city I picked up a Haynes for him. We opened the book, and it said to unbolt the engine and lift the trans out with it. We threw the book aside until we needed torque specs to put the trans back in, which is all it is good for IMO. If automakers put torque specs online, Haynes and Chilton I think would be out of business.
