So, as some of you know I recently acquired a 1959 CJ5 with a 86 Cherokee drive train and 86 Comanche rear end in it. It's actually got a 5 speed. I noticed when I drive over dirt and rocks there is a loud bang from the floor area and felt through my feet. Got under there and saw that the bellhousing is hitting the floor. The PO had modified the rear trans cross member so I can't really shim that down. Would it be hard to put some spacers under the tub mounts and just lift the body a bit? I only need about a half inch.
Looking forward to opinions. Remember, I'm a semi-moron so use small words.

Without pics we can't say for sure- there may be issues with things like clutch or throttle linkages but body lifts up to two inches are a fairly common, fairly low to no issue thing.

As long as the body is strong enough to support it. Some of us have bodies that are resting on frames in a few more locations than just the body mounts, if you know what I mean.

My first '56 was resting on a pair of oak 2"x6" planks.... o_O

Alternatively, can you pound a hump in the sheetmetal?

If you still have the stock steering, brake pedal, and clutch pedal (I'm guessing not based on your description) you may have issues with them.

Like I said, the engine, transmission, transfer case , steering and basically everything in the front is from a 86 Jeep Cherokee. The only place I can definitely see impact is right above the bellhousing. One of the bell housing bolts is clouting the floor.
I may try creating some clearance with a hammer but I suspect the trans would have to be dropped to do that. When I'm finally up at the house full time( Retiring in July) I'll try to post pictures.

I had to do a 1" body lift to get my drivetrain to clear the tunnel. It's an easy fix as long as you watch for anything solid between the body and the frame. You will likely need all new body bolts to fit with the spacers.
