Hi I have the stock Dana 44 with 3.73 gears and was looking to buy a Dana 44 Powr-Lok 19 spline that I was told it was 3.54 gears. But no numbers on the side of the carrier. The only numbers on it are 481805A and L15222.Was wondering if anyone could help with these numbers if they would fit?
    Any would be appreciated Thanks.

If you pull the diff cover off, the gear numbers will be stamped on the carrier.

    A D44 Series 3 diff fits 3.73- down numerically (including 3.54). Series 4 runs from 3.92 through 5.38 gears.
If its a PowrLok, there should be a 5 digit number, followed by X stamped in the side of the case (22017X, 23116X, 23233X, 23178X, 26988X for Series 3, 19 spl examples), and there should be a date code too. Are you sure your looking at a PowrLok?

I really don’t know I’m new at this this a x after L15222 so it’s L15222x. I have only seen a picture I’m just going by what I was told it’s a Powr-Lok and the numbers are on the back of the carrier where the ring gear bolts. So I really don’t know what I’m looking at.he says there are no numbers on the side of the carrier.

    .
3.54 would be a very rare ratio for a Jeep 19 spline PL.
But something like the 1964 -1965 Willys PU truck with the 230 Tornado engine did have such an option.
Your numbers given do not match the proper PL numbers

A PowrLok will have a 5 digit number, followed by an X stamped in the side of the cylindrical case. A date code will also be stamped nearby too.
Without these numbers, I have my doubts you are looking at a PowrLok.

    I've heard people call a D53 a D44HD. I've otherwise never heard of a D44HD.

Other than Donny’s theory, I believe the 3/4 ton D44 front axles used in trucks were often referred to as HD due to the thick axle tubes, but that shouldn’t affect the case if it is.

Yes, front axles of high-GVWR J-trucks are D44HD. Heavier tubes to support the higher load rating, but a Dana 44 otherwise. My J20 has a front D44HD. IIRC the J10 gets the same standard 44 axle as the wide track Cherokee, with different hubs or spindles. The HD was never used as a rear axle in Jeeps AFAIK.

I would suppose it could be from an early Gladiator.
That's an optional ratio for at least some of the mid 60's Jeep trucks.
Not sure when the Gladiator switched over to 30 spline axles.
I would have guessed they went to 30 spline in the mid to late 60's.
30 spline side gears with 3.54 ratio would be found in a GM and a few other manufactures.
Perhaps some early 60's IH still used 19 spline shafts.

Thats a PowrLok, but I wonder if that one of the newly produced units I've seen advertized. I'm only familiar with the units from the 1960's.

I have no knowledge if this is a new style unit. I can't comment further than to confirm it is a PowrLok, at least from its appearance.
