Dana 44 question

Yes, dana another question. I have a tag that says 43-8 on my axle. Is this 4.38 ratio or 5.38. I have only found one link on here with this ratio while researching. Google search came up with this

What's up with the tag then. What does it mean?

 

sorry 'bout that.
the 43 is your ring gear tooth count. the 8 is your pinion tooth count.

i still would count the ring and pinion tooth counts since there is a possibility that someone changed gears at some point.

 

43 divided by 8 equals 5.375, or 5.38.

 

Damn that was pretty easy. I guess I should have read a little deeper into previous posts instead of searching for 4.38

No need to count teeth - the ratio is stamped into the outer edge of the ring gear.
