I've posted before about my F134 backfiring & missing. I broke down a borrowed a dwell meter from a friend and found the dwell was way off; set the dwell and now it runs great. It's the first time its run right since I bought it in December. I feel great and stupid for not doing this sooner. I never had this problem in the past. I was always able to set the points without any problems. Now that it runs it needs to stop. It stops but I have no brake lights. There are turn signals and lights but no brake lights. I figure the stop light switch is bad but have no idea where it is on the master cylinder. It looks tight down there. Any help out there?

Thanks for the advice on the backfiring. It was the timing and points.

It's a hydraulic switch. They move around, some are in the line in front of the MC.

Most are on the front of the MC as I recall.

Looks similar to this: [IMG] the electrodes may be bullet type though most likely not the round flat ones pictured.

question about the flat terminals... where are the connectors for those?? i've always soldered a wire directly onto them, but i would prefer to find a connector somewhere if at all possible.

It's a hydraulic switch, should be mounted in front of the M/C.Check the wires going from the switch to the lights,I had to replace them before mine would work.I went ahead and put in a new switch. Krage Motorsports has them also, about $3.50. Have you tested the switch with a voltmeter?

I looked and found the switch on the front of the mc, but how in the H do you get to it? It looks like I'll have to take my exhaust manifold off to get to it. My hands aren't that small.

I don't know if you’re still having a problem getting it off, but I had the same problem tonight. I ended up going to home depot (I love those 8:30 PM runs) and buying a 6in "long nose" vise grips that was able to get a hold of it from underneath. It would only turn it very little each time so it took for ever, but eventually it came off. Now it's off to NAPA tomorrow to get a new switch. Too bad they aren't open past 7. Hope this helps.
