T90 In Replace Of T86

    t86 needs rebuilt first and reverse chewed up and need bearings and leaks know most on this site replace all gears with a t90 my question is can i just put a t90 in replace of the t86 will it bolt up or is there more involved thanks, ed

    No, more involved. The case of the T-86 has a larger pattern where it bolts to the bell housing adapter. Only the internal dimensions are the same as the T-90. To use the T-90, you would have to buy a different adapter.

    Could a t14 be used as a direct bolt in replacement for t86?

    Yes, I believe so. I recall the front pattern of the T-86 is the same as the T-14 and T-15. Pretty sure the only issue would be length, and that's probably close enough for the driveshafts. Mounts may need to be adjusted.

    I did this swap on a '67 w/t86. T14 is a bit longer and the rear driveline was close. Only real issue is 6 spline verses 10 spline. You will need the correct gear. More involved if you have o-drive as I did. Herm changed the bull gear and rebuilt O-drive so some added cost.Love that syncro first gear. mike

    Please note that the T-14 from the intermediate years ('72-75, with the 232 and 258) is different from the V6 T-14 ... in case you want to look around for a T-14.
