I apologize if I'm driving everyone crazy with lots of posts recently, I'm up to my eyeballs in this jeep project and trying to get to a stopping point by the end of the week. My newly discovered issue is a noise coming from the HEI distributor (I'm pretty sure). Video attached. What are your thoughts? Will it run for a while and be okay or is it about to give out on me? If it sounds like it could quit on me sometime soon I'd like some tips on the best way to diagnose these types of distributors and how tedious is it to replace parts vs replace the whole thing. Maybe even some input on which HEIs would be best to replace it with.

If I hear what I think you're talking about... Does it sound like a cup rattling on a saucer?

Have you tried taking the cap off and spending the rotor by hand? Lifting the rotor and shaft up and down checking for play? Sounds like a squeaky bearing.

I've taken the cap off and flicked the rotor on the spring and it made a pretty similar noise. Haven't checked the shaft yet. I'll look again tomorrow and spin the rotor around and check the shaft for play.

I recently switched from a mechanical fuel pump to an electric and I put a cutoff plate where the mechanical pump used to be. One comment my buddy had was that it could be something in there. I know on chevys there is a pin on the camshaft that the pump arm rides on, but as I understand it the jeeps don't have that, is that right?

The Chevy fuel pump uses a pushrod to actuate, but the Buick engine has an eccentric on the end of the camshaft. Your Buick engine needs nothing more than the blanking plate.

Ha well thanks! I guess my reason for posting is to make sure I can run it hard for a week with a clear conscience. I could live with the noise if I felt confident that I'm not going to break down any time soon.
