Early Cj 5 Rear Seat Interchangeability

I'm finally getting back to working on my '56 CJ5. It never had a rear seat installed (no holes in rear floors) so I'm starting from scratch and am going to start to hunt for a rear seat and mounting brackets. I know that they're hard to find and was wondering up to what year I can use/look for?

As an alternative, has anyone taken an aftermarket (Smitty Built, Best Top, other car) rear seat, adapted it and mounted it using the original seat bracket locations? I don't want to drill a bunch of extra holes in non-original locations if I can avoid it.

Any CJ rear seat will fit. Up to you how well you mount it.

 

I tried to mount one in my '70. its just too cramped. you want it low enough to not look ridiculous, but its too low for adult legs in there.

 

Thanks guys. I should have clarified my initial question... what years will an original/stock rear seat interchange with a '56 while using original mounting brackets? Is it '55-'59, before they changed the mounting and seat configuration? I don't have any of the parts and want to know what year range I can search for before going aftermarket or a later seat that will require more drilling.

 

I am six ft tall and I can sit in the back seat of my CJ...I wouldn't want to ride there for a long time though!
