I've ran the stock points now 4-5 years. Time to upgrade. Bought this for another
Project and changed plans. It's a msd 6al copy kinda, bout 100$, off eBay
Built in rev limiter(I set on 3800rpm),much hotter spark (gap plugs .040 ), and no more burnt
Points, they now act as a grounding trigger , still have to keep them gaped as the rubbing block wears.
Installed under dash beside glove box on inside firewall. Got it mounted today, finish wiring tomorrow.
I've used msd before on other cars with point distributors with good results, hope this generic brand
    Works as well,it has a lifetime warranty,so I thought I'd give it a try. 20180822_191637.jpg 20180822_191858.jpg

I'd expect the points gap to not be much of an issue, as long as the timing is set right. Normally the gap is important because it sets the dwell angle and this affects the coil charging cycle. Since that's now under the control of the module, I'd expect all you need is the signal from the points opening (the "Kettering trigger") and all will be well.

More about how this works here Distributor Pickups (near the bottom of the page).

One nice feature of this arrangement - if the module fails, you can disconnect it and run points ignition as a backup. Worthwhile to keep the points in good condition for that reason, IMO.

On my other car with a points triggered system,I have to clean and adjust bout once a year,
Rust or some type of corrosion gets them, a stroke or 2 with a point file and gap,and it ready again.
Had the same set of points in my j10 pickup bout 8-10 years.
And as the rubbing block wears it changes the timing slightly, not that it matters much?
I set the rev limited at 3800rpm, is that bout right on a 134f ? When raising he%# with the
Skinny pedal, I normally shift bout 3K? Dont seem to pull much after that?

Wear on the block will have the effect of throwing the timing off a bit, I'd be checking that after re-setting. This also of course affect the dwell but that's no longer an issue for you.

    FYI on the torque curve-

I wouldn't worry about over revving the engine- sounds like hell but @ 4k they're really not under any major amount of stress.

Nice flat tq curve, that's why u can short shift it, and it still pulls like a Tractor, lol.
Still seems like the 32s are a bit much on the hwy. Now 35-40 mph is my self set max
Safe speed, she really leans in the cures with the soft YJ springs and no away bars?
How tall were the original tires, I wonder?
    Thanks for the graph.

My NDT's are about 30", IIRC other stock tires were in the 29" range. You really should be able to hit 50-55 comfortably, the only time I've noticed body roll on corners was when running low pressure on the tires, but thats with sock springs.

Yes I can hit 55, but I'm afraid I may hit something else, lol, with the 2 leaf YJ springs and no sway bars it leans a lot in curves, and any sudden movement of the steering wheel?
