VIN location on 1968 CJ5?

    Anyone know where the VIN number might be located on a 68 CJ5? I found it on the firewall and dashboard. Is it anywhere on the frame or body?

    Check the top of the frame rail, passenger side, under the battery. I think it's on the rear of the frame somewhere, too.....

    The serial number is on the top of the frame midway between the shock absorber mount and the body tub on the passenger side (right side) of the frame.

    Sometimes it is actually under the tub.

    It is usually hard to read, and sometimes you can't even tell it is there unless you take a drill and wire brush to it.

    Sometimes it even matches the serial number on the serial number tag, but not always.

    I have heard it is on the rear of the frame, but I have never found the number there. Doesn't mean it isn't there, just that I've never found it.

    As to the rear location, I've heard it's at or near the top of the rear axle hump on the frame, pass. side. I can't vouch for the accuracy of that... :rofl: ;)
