Just for referance, with out slight mods to a 225 4wd oil pan, it will not work on a 231 engine.

It appears as though it fits when bolted on, but the stroke on the 231 is to long and the rod bolts hit.

I went through the same thing. Sounded horrible when I first started it. I removed the pan and "modified" it with a BFH. :D

Good to know because I am doing a swap and was going to use the 225 pan.

    Thanks

Wish this post would ahve been around to read when I did it... I started the engien up and imediatly had a "bottom end knock" luckily it was the oil pan, but a 231 with over 1k in it, and a noise like that sure is scary...
