How can I tell if the the T90 trans in my 64 Tuxedo Park has been converted to floor shift or has been swopped out?The drivers side is as-T90A-1,W with a ring around it,Q 8 and a bolt on tag with the numbers 5-22.There is two bolts in the side that look like possible plugs.

Are those plug side-bolts on raised areas?

Another clue is to examine the exact area where the dashboard meets the steering column. If your jeep ever had a column shift, you'd notice a raised "notch" directly above (12 o'clock) the column where linkage would pass thru. The alternative would be a round, half-moon form-fit over the column that makes it look like the dash & column were made to fit together.

    Got a digicam yet Mark?

    How 'bout now? :D

No cam yet but I do Have the original colum dash (I think). It has the raised notch and it is 3''1/2.I also still have a prong on the steering colum.I have no real doubt that this is not the Jeep for my title.

Attached is a pic of the column-shift with the dash "notch", but from 2 diffo hosting sites. My gut tells me that the first one will show as a "Red-X". But I'm doing a test......both pics show up for me, but might not for anyone else. Would a kind soul out there report if/which of the pics appear, and which appear as a Red-X (if at all)? Thanks!!

With the remote/column shift there are holes in the side of the tranny where the shift mechanisms come through.

You can make a side shift tranny to work top shift so check the drivers side of the tranny. If you need the parts to convert back my buddy has the shift assembly w/o the handle and he may have the tranny too, Bill

First I'll have find out some details. My 64 came with the F 134 and was swopped out with the 64 225 Buick Special. Will the side shift work with the V6?I still can't tell if I have the original side shift T90.All I know for sure is they look way cooler and orignal is always better in my book.

FWIW the columns shifts were noted for their binding up, which meant no shifting till you stopped and hammered at the linkages to unbind them. This is probably why it was converted to floor shift.

So...if original is better are you looking for a :hurrican: ? ;)

Keep in mind the 225 would not come with the T90, but as far as I can tell from looking at the service manual you could get the 225 with a side-shift, so I guess that means a side-shift T14?

http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/TuxPartsPeculiar/Page3.pdf has a list of the parts that comprise the transmission "remote control".

If you don't have a copy of the original service manual that should be your first purchase...it has a diagram of the remote control.

The manuals are available at http://www.thejeep.com

sounds like the t-86 was swapped out. the -90 has a better low range than -86.

I suppose it's possible/probable, but just find it hard to believe.
