Use Dexron. Now days it's Dexron III, but I or II will be fine, if you happen across any...
Actually, it'll be Dexron III/ Mercon......

I have Dexron III in mine. I believe III was made to replace II. It seems to work OK.

Thats why I love this sight.. VERY fast answers.

Thanks alot, I knew ford used F, so it wasnt that, but wanted to make sure if it was supposed to have type A that Dextron III wouldnt hurt it. Soemone put dextron in ym ford and ruined the tranny that way....

Off to work on the chevette now... thanks alot.

Dextron or Ford type for firmer shifts. Recently found out from the guy at the trans shop that just redid a T350 for me that he likes to use the type from Honda auto trans. Said it was light and he liked the firm shifts it gives him. Now this guy is into street rods and builds some pretty good ones. I suppose it would work for our puposes if you wanted a firmer shiftng trans.

Type F in the gm trannies will work fine and shift real firm but never put dexron in a ford tranny.
