clean it good and fluid film the inside after you patch it. i have seen por trap moisture and acclerate rust, one little spot without coverage will let water get behind the por paint.

Yes. It looks like several of those parts need to be retained. One piece is the top of the door hinge and the other is where a rod connects that runs horizontal from the windshield to the vertical post behind the door.

I would remove the soft top hardware and save it. However you may not end up ever using the parts you have. From what I have seen the different soft top manufacturers have their own variations of these parts and they are or where included with the tops. Also I believe the holes for the upper soft top door hinge (2 holes through the side of the windshield frame tube) and the holes for the bracket which receives the rod over the door (2 small holes over each top corner of the windshield) are stock so if not reinstalling the hardware I would not weld the holes shut but rather fill them with nuts and bolts.

I like the windshield you have, top mount electric wipers, I would fill in every thing that is not from the factory, like Famer Pete said, and hang on to it. You may be buying a whole new top, and everything will come with it. I have an older Best Top with two piece doors and removable rear windows, I like it because you have lots of ways to use it, Just to top or all closed up. Good luck what ever you do.

I sure won't be betting against John's ability to save it.
