I need to make a mount to mount my hi-lift jack and wondered how many of you have already invented this mousetrap.

I found this one while surfing....................
He keeps the climbing mechanism in the toolbox under the passenger seat. Also the shovel serves as the jack handle.

No pics, but I had bolted mine across the rear crossmember. No fab needed - IIRC I had to shorten the jack a bit so it didn't stick out and rip holes in the fenders of passing cars (ala Goldfinger).

I used two ubolts to attach it to both sides of the roll bar. On the base side, the ubolts stick inward, going through the base. 3" diameter, I think. Used some padding to take up the extra slack around the bar and provide vibration dampening. Used a 2.5" ubolt on the other side, sticking to the rear. The bar mounts to it. Used velcro to secure the handle to the bar.

I've had a total of 3 different mounts:

First, across the front bumper. This was done via a strap of metal on one end that had a bolt sticking out to "hang" the baseplate on. The other end had two small straps that allowed a bolt to pass through the shaft. Removing the one bolt allowed the jack to come off:

Second (and simplest) was attaching it to the spare tire. This was done by passing one large bolt through the backside of the spare and through the shaft. One nut tightened the jack down against the tire.

Third (no pic), I disassembled the jack, and u-bolted the shaft across the radiator support rods right up by the cowl. The baseplate and handle went into some nice padded vinyl bags and stowed behind the rear seat.

It'll mount differently yet in the 6, either behind the seat or under the body.

You guys mounting them to the rollbar - do you use your backseat? I never could figure out how to keep the jack out of the way of passengers...

Nope, no back seat. Although, I have mounted it similarly on the front part of the roll bar, and it fits snugly against the back of the front seats. I could imagine being able to use a rear seat with that setup. However, getting in and out would be a problem, and I wouldn't want to be sitting in the back during a sudden stop. Might get some bruises or broken teeth.

Another option might be to attach it to one side of the roll bar over the wheel well, angled upward. It might be too long to do with a top.

I had the brackets I bought when I got the jack welded to my front bumper area. Sits across the front around my winch. Check the avatar.

When I bought my Hi-Lift I bought mounting brackets that I have not installed yet. I am thinking of mounting them on cowl in front of the windsheild and behind the hood. My tub is in bad shape, so I am not concerned about a few more holes. I will seal the bolts so rain water doesn't leak in.

I've got mine accross the back of the roll cage. If I had a rear seat it would be useable, although the fuel cells in the way.

I just welded tabs to the rollcage and then welded bolts to stick through the tabs. The bolts go through the holes in the hi-lift and washers with wingnuts secure it and keep it from rattling. I drilled a hole through one of the bolts to use a lock to keep it safe. Oh, and a bungee cord keeps the dang handle from rattling.

I attached mine to my swingout, on the inside of the rack. I welded a piece of 1.5" angle iron to one of the swing out angled braces, for the base to sit in. Then I welded a cut off bolt to the angle iron, to fit through the base and threaded on a nut to secure the base. I welded another cut off bolt to the center upright of the swing out. One of the holes in the beam lines up over this stud, and another nut/washer holds the beam in place. Some strap or bungie keeps the handle tight to the beam.
The base sits on a piece of rubber roofing in the angle to keep it from rattling.
    Can't find a pic...

EDIT: Here's a pic that shows how it appears. Sorry I don't have a pic of the way it's bolted up on the inside of the swingout. I'll snap one of that next chance I get
