    I have come across an old Hobart generator/welding unit with CJ2A stationary motor.
    I'm told I these have low compression heads, smaller exhaust manifold outlets and would need to change these things before putting it into a Jeep. It may also use timing gears not a timimg chain, when did CJ2a start using timing gears.
    Would this engine be suitable to put in my jeep and what other if any changes would I have to make. Any infomation would be appreciated. ;)

    Cheers Hoops

    everthing was gear only after that
    cyl head and exhaust openings, I can't help there
    I had a factory Willys parts manual for these engines
    sold it {kicking self in behind}

    The CJ2A stationary would go into my MB 42 I know its not original but Im not fussy and it looks almost the same anyway. But I don't want to put it in to find I have to make to many changes. The CJ2A motor in this Hobart gen/welder has Jeep on one end of the head and Willys indrustrial on the other. Grind of the indrustrial and its left with Willys jeep a very nice addition to any old jeep I reckon. Would a MB head fit on to this CJ2A motor plus an MB manifold?

    My dad bought one of those and put it in a jeep a few years ago. I don't know if he had to change anything. He didn't mention it. I thought it would've been better to leave as-is anyhow. His was an air compressor I thought.

    I heard that the only difference was the cam as the stationary engines were designed to run at a very narrow powerband. I've never taken one apart so I don't know for sure, Bill

    From what little I know those old flat heads were very interchangable. If you want to get with real gurus of military jeeps see the boys on the "g" g503.com that is.
