Similar question to one that was recently asked but this is for a 75 CJ. Trying to install the msd ignition and need to know which wire I'm supposed to hook the red wire to? I assume it needs to be on during crank and run. Any help appreciated. I tried to search but couldn't come up with anything. Thanks for the help.

Which ignition do you have, the original Prestolite? The only way that might work is to slave the MSD module to the Prestolite module.

Probably it will work if you connect it like this -

    Here are the instructions: https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/msd-6425.pdf

You don't have the coil connector that Ford uses, but the coil wire polarity is the same.

I upgraded the coil. I need to know where to hook up the red wire (see pic)

The picture I posted shows where to hook the big red and little red wires. The (+) coil wire will be hot when you turn on the key. Coil upgrade does not matter. The MSD module turns the coil on and off (orange and black wires), and the original coil wires supply power (red wire) and a trigger signal (white wire) to the MSD module. Easy.

Do you have the original Prestolite ignition that came with the Jeep? It makes a big difference.

I have the duraspark distributor, ford style e-coil. My understanding is the red wire does not hook to this but to a switched power supply. Am I incorrect?

Do you want to trigger the MSD module from the magnetic pickup of the Duraspark distributor, or trigger the MSD module from the Duraspark module?

Here's how to use the magnetic pickup. Same idea as the previous diagram - the original wire to the (+) of the coil turns on and off with the ignition key, and connects to the red wire. The 8869 harness plugs in to your distributor directly - MSD 8869 Cable Assembly, Amp Female To Ford - MSD Performance Products - connect the 8860 to the module and the 8869, and plug the 8869 into the distributor connector.

Ahh. Gotcha. Thank you for clarifying. Sometimes you get so confused that you miss the obvious. Thanks again. Just the help I needed.
