What Size Ballast Resistor

    What size ballast resistor is needed for the standard Delco distributor? I originally had a Prestolite but changed to the Delco and wondered if they used the same resistor.

    I too changed over from Presto to Delco & kept the same B.R. IIRC the FSM warns against mixing types of B.R. & coil, but I don't know about between dist's. :beer:

    It shouldn't matter. Like Hippo said, the important thing is to know if your coil needs a BR or not. The coil should have a stamp or a label on it saying whether or not it has an internal resistor. If you use a coil with an internal resistor and then add another ballast resistor in the line, the voltage drop will be petty severe and the Jeep will run like crap, if at all. If you skip the resistor completely, the Jeep will run just fine, until you fry the points in about 1000 miles or so.

    the resistor's value changes as the temp. changes. so i imagine you look for a replacement by part # or engine model?

    I had to change the ballast resistor on my '66 with the Delco distributor. I don't have the box anymore, but I'm pretty sure the new Delco resistor that I bought was part number D1110.
