I just picked up a 2 owner 1955 CJ5 with Serial Number 23631. I have documentation from the original purchaser and was told everything was original with the exception of the carburetor. Is there a site for decoding the casting date codes and assembly codes? Here area a few pics.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

Did you read the serial number document at the top of the forum?

AFAIK there's no such thing as "matching numbers" for these cars. The stamped engine serial number will be correct for the car, but only within a range. Casting numbers won't tell you much. 806219 is the right format for a Willys-Overland Motors part number, but I expect it simply identifies the block casting and nothing more about the engine. Same with the transmission numbers. Both the transmission and transfer case should have a metal identity tag with the Jeep PN and a Warner Gear or Dana-Spicer resp.

First...never call a JEEP a CAR!...LOL...I downloaded the document but unless I missed something, there is no breakdown for the different variations of the engine casting number or the format used to determine the date code. I suspect what the previous owner meant by "numbers matching", was all the components were original the Jeep. He was an old hot rod guy, as am I.

I found an index which shows where the "casting date" is on the various components, which are the pictures I posted. I realize these will be diffent from the assembly date, but will help me to determine of they are likely original. I am trying to determine the formula for date code on these parts as well as my Jeeps approximate build month based on the serial number.

The number in 20161212_111947.jpg can tell you when your engine was assembled, but it won't tell you when the engine was put into your JEEP.
The VIN will tell you when your JEEP came off the assembly line. However, in the 60-61 years since then, everything in your JEEP except the frame could have been switched out to keep the vehicle on the road.

Thanks... based on the documentation I received from the second owner, and him being a very close family friend of the original owner, I'm confident all the major components are original. I was simply trying to establish the casting and assembly dates to document all if/when this goes up for sale. Also, I didn't see any VIN production dates in the spreadsheet for the 55's.
