Before I had a compressor and HVLP gun I replaced my windshield frame. I painted it with Rustoleum black top coat. Can I scuff and repaint with that "tractor paint" sold at Tractor Supply? Or must all of the rustoleum come off?

    Thanks

As long as it is cured I would give it a good sand, then a good prime and then paint it.

Yeah, try it. The paint might try and jump off, but you're not out a lot of money if it does.

I was just reading up on this. The Rustoleum is oil based and the tractor paint should also be oil based, so it is fine to top coat with the tractor paint. The oil will mess up other finished if put over top.

How thick is your Rustoleum? Will it come off with lacquer thinner? Are you planning to use hardener with the tractor paint?

Rustoleum was brushed on so a pretty generous coat. Didnt use hardener on rustoleum but will use it on the tractor paint.

I guess if it is Tractor Supply paint, it's Majic Enamel. It's nice to paint, for an Alkyld Enamel. I use the hardener. It will paint over Rustoleum after scuffing. I'd test an area first, to ensure no lifting occurs. It will fade in the sun a bit over time though. A cheap acrylic urethane quart might be a better choice.

if the rusoleum is thick id go real thin coats(application thin not over reduced) allow plenty of flash time and your chances of lifting are less.
