I'm getting ready to do some much needed suspension work on my '75 CJ-5. I am going to be running 35x12.50 mud terrians. Cutting the wheel wells are out of the question, I am thinking that a 4" suspension lift with a 1" body lift will be enough. Am I correct?? Also the question of the century....What brand of lifts does everybody prefer????

I run a 1" body lift and a mild 1" susp lift. When I take corners, it feels as though the Jeep is going to tip over.

To be fair, in the car I usually drive, my butt is about 6" off the road. Therefore, the Jeep's height is very different than my norm.

BTW, I have 31's on my Jeep. Remember, the 72-75 has a very narrow track. They are also very light. The wider the tire, the better snowshoe impersonation it will do.

bivomatic, you "should" be alright with the 4" lift and a 1" body lift, but don't expect much articulation without contact. Might want a touch more body lift just for safty. Additionally, if you remove the flares and trim the wells, you'll have room for articulation...

A 4.5" lift with longer shackles and a body lift would also work.

This is a 72 with approximately 5" SUA.

Notice the tire stuffs way up into the fender. I used Rubicon Express 2.5" wide 4" Lift springs on it when I rebuilt the suspension. I have since cut the fender to keep the tire out of the metal. Here is the pic of the trimmed metal.

I would rather have the articulation for wheelin. You can use extended bump stops to keep the tire from stuffing so bad.

Using a PRO COMP 4 inch lift on my cj-5 I was able to clear 35 inch bfg's with no problem but a one inch body made me feel more comfortable turning and flexing at the same time. By the way I loved the lift kit it was still pretty flexy and had a good onroad ride quality. No sway bars and really didn't lean much at all, good solid kit. the reason I think it clears is it sits a little higher than most other 4 inch kits.
