    Hi there,

Yesterday I took the jeep out for a ride. I was in a field put it in 4WD and the tranny in 4H. Drove 600 meters to a road. Stopped on the road I put both front wheels to 2 again and the tranny in 2H and started slowly driving. Now the jeep was driving and braking by itself. I stopped right away, put it in 4 on the wheels and drove in 4WD again. I almost could not get the tranny in 4H. Put the wheels in 2 again and the tranny in 2 and it was braking again. Unfortunately a car came and I had to drive 5 meters to the side of the road and when I did that (while it was braking on off) it was like it stopped braking. It was no longer braking, but a ticking sound comes from left side wheels, maybe front maybe back, I cant tell? If I put the car in 4WD again it stops. If I only put the tranny in 4H it stops. But as soon as I'm in 2H the sound is there - not when in reverse.

    What did I break?

    Regards Mikkel / Denmark

What transfer case do you have- 18 or a 20?

    Single or dual shifters?

Are all of your tires the same size? No mismatched sizes by chance? Reading your description of events it almost sounds like driveline binding. Maybe a hub is not disengaging sometimes. Driving in 4WD on a hard surface, or at least where there is no wheel slippage can cause binding. Do you have a locking differential in the front axle?

Try putting the whole jeep on four jackstands and rotating each wheel by hand. Lock and unlock the wheel locking hubs and then check it again after shifting the transfer case into gear. That might point to whether it is a wheel bearing, dragging brake, gearset issue, driveline bind, or transfer case bind.
