I'm about to pull the 6 and clean everything up. (Everything was rebuilt but sat for a few years) My question is can I pull the motor trans and transfer case all in one shot? As you can see, everything is pretty easy to get to right now. I have pulled traditional motors this way but not sure with the added weight of the transfer case.
My thought was to just lift it enough and roll the chassis back.

    Thanks,

Another option is to set engine, tranny and transfer case down on the floor and lift the frame over it. After rolling out front axle, of course.

Sure - if you can balance it and your hoist is up to the task. The AMC inline 6s aren't that heavy, say 450 lb - lighter than a V8. The T-18 is heavy, but its case is strong and the transfer case will hang off of it like nothing.

Like Tim said, I know I'd have a difficult time balancing it. I'd be a bit scared to attempt that with a standard cherry picker/engine hoist, but then again I always worry too much.

I like the idea of leaving the trans for the pull and getting it later. We are just frame and body. What have you guys used to support the front of the tranny since it is only held at the rear? I see bottle jacks, floor jacks, cinder blocks etc.....
Is there any problem pulling the motor from the side? Seems like it would be a safer grab. See photo on the top for reference. Appreciate input. Plan on pulling tomorrow.

Last dumb question, Is it a no-no to sling the bottom of the trans if I were to do it in one shot? (not bellhousing)

I put a 2x4 in the frame rail under the front of the trans. Or I sling the rear and pull it all at once with the crane boom as short as possible and pull it all at once.

You can support the transmission with anything. Wood, jack stand, floor jack.. But if you want to move the jeep around use a crank strap to support it from the frame rails or if you have the body on, a 2x4 across the transmission plate and a chain or sling around it.

If you have the body on, I find it easier to remove the engine separate from the transmission. If you have the body off, the whole assembly is what i do. Chain and bolts attached to engine and a crank strap from the transfer case to the hook on the hoist to even it out.
