Does the v6 dauntless with the stock carb have a spacer that the air filter housing rests on to clear the choke linkage? I've just started in on my jeep with a v6 I acquired over the weekend and have never owned a dauntless. I inventoried all my parts and I don't have that piece and the air filter housing doesn't seem to clear the choke linkage unless it's angled just right.

Much like this photo from gem of the Rockies build.

Mine looks more like this pic from @Focker jeep

The oil bath type did not use the spacer. They had special formed dimples in the bottom to clear the manual choke and the fuel inlet. The dry types used the spacer.

What is the round thing sitting on top of the carb in the top pic. What is it's purpose?

Thanks Walt I did see the dimples but light was fading and I thought I'd ask. I appreciate the quick response

To answer your question Renegade II, the dry filter used the spacer to clear the auto choke housing when they switched over from manual chokes.

@Pack Rat , Does this spacer sit right on the carb and is removable? I may still have an issue then because my housing looks to have a dry filter and I don't have the spacer. As I said I thought I saw dimples but will have to look and fiddle with it again.

Yes, it just sits on the carb. Bottom of the spacer is flat, at least the one I have is, nothing to align with any dimples on the carb. Because they were only used for 71 they're kind of hard to find. Took a couple of years to get finally get the spacer and housing for my 71 Jeepster.

I just found one of those spacers out in the shop while cleaning - let me know if you need any measurements off it.

I've not decided if it's time to sell the 2Gs and parts I have for them yet since I'm moving to all 4BBL and EFI. I know some restore folks would like to have some of the 'stuff' I have on shelves.

Arm wrestle contest with all of us wanted that little part. No I have had on all along though last week when I popped the hood open the air cleaner was sitting funny on the carb and low and behold no spacer.

I won't be getting back to culling things till the end of August. Out of town for work next week - two weeks after that Camping, Wheeling, Fishing, Eating, Drinking in the Mountains... and sleeping in the 5th wheel with the windows open so I can hear the river rush by.

Did I mention 'NO CELL SIGNAL' so work won't be an issue  for me.

Sounds like a good break. I sleep well near rivers with the sound of rushing water. I am trying to keep the renegade I purchased fairly stock so if you do plan on selling that piece I'd love to have it. Thanks
