I decided to push a little bit my CJ5 to high speed, so I changed the spee gauge, it is a Omix-Blabla top quality, as shown on picture...
    Lot of wind indeed!

Good idea on the braided fuel lines. I had not thought of that. I did think about some sort of braided hose or conduit for all the wiring as much as possible to help keep the rodents from chewing, but have not researched it yet. The mice chewed right thru my wires and the plastic wire loom too. Any ideas?

Only thing i can think of is I've seen wire wrap insulation meant for high heat areas. May have some chew resistance?

Good ideas, Our cat is so lazy and so well fed the ground squirrels are fairly safe, but just him being around the area helps deter them.
That heat shield looks promising, I will order some and report back with how it works.
    Thanks

Here You go. It is not the best video. It turns out that a Gopro 3 sucks at recording sounds in the wind. So the video is chopped up to cut out the sections that were just wind noise. I drove over to Jenks, which a small town just across the Arkansas river from us. They have an old downtown section that has lots of old brick buildings right on the edge of both sides of the road. My thinking was the buildings would echo the sounds back to the gopro so it would be easier to hear the mufflers. But I forgot that yesterday they closed off main street for their annual "Plant and Herb festival". (Not THAT kind of herb). Anyway I ended up driving around Jenks neighborhoods trying to get back to the main roads.

Rush springs ranch. It was mostly side by sides then our group was about double what was in the picture all together.

Darn CJ5 stopped the show at least 3 times with fuel, electric, and starter issues. Rear main seal leaks.
Steering is awful. Rear pinion howls, tires are balding and so is my head.

All stuff to fix but this group got me pretty excited for Colorado.

I got back up to the shop today and started with a 1/2" plate 6" square and killed two birds with one stone .
I was just going to make up my tow/ Shackle mounts for the front bumper, but with the cuts I made I ended up with a pair of nice gusset plates also.
I cleaned up the Shackle mount plates and welded them to the 3" square front bumper I made a couple days ago.
Not bad welds for an Old, Def, Dumb, and Blind Guy.

A stinking Head Gasket is LOTS of work!
It's now back together except the distributor and the Oil pump. Waiting on a new oil pump cover from TA Performance.

Are you replacing the entire timing cover/pump housing or just the guts? What was the condition of the pump when you dis-assembled it? Did you post that earlier? I may have read it, can't reamber. Now I'm going to re-read your thread on the head gasket re-placement. I'm at work and it's kind of slow plus I have my morning coffee.:coffee:

So my issue is oil pressure at idle, my gauge shows like 5lbs. Then up to about 25-30 when doing 40+ on the hwy. The pump part of the timing cover appears good. The pump cover showed a bit of ware. Also replacing the impeller parts and the regulator. This is all fairly easy stuff and the new timing cover I suspect is much more expensive. No guarantee this will solve the problem, but I'm sure it cant hurt.

I had a 6 foot long black rat snake crawl into the transformer out on the power line pole last fall -> Created a spectacular fireworks show. The Lineman that came out to get the power back on said that it was usually a squirrel that cuases an outage like that, but sometimes it is one of those snakes.
